Gesture recognition and clustering

The main objective of research topic is to develop algorithms for analysing and understanding motion of one or several targets. Within the HCI field individual meaningful motion sequences of these targets (e.g. fingers) is described with the term gestures. One or more targets can describe a certain gesture that is recognized by the system as an deliberate user action and is associated with some response.

In multi-user setup similar algorithms can be employed to cluster targets into clusters representing individual users. This can help the system to interpret the actions of each user better. This results in more robust and more intuitive interaction experience.

Several tasks connected with this objective are:
  • single target gesture recognition
  • multiple targets gesture recognition
  • user-based clustering
  • association of gestures with responses
