Basic data overview and a mileage visualization based on VIN search results

Avtolog.si is an online service that allows users to access the history of any vehicle. Based on open data, the service provides insights into the environmental and safety trends of vehicles in Slovenia. Based on these trends, users can make informed decisions when buying or choosing a vehicle, taking into account both environmental factors (such as pollutant emissions and EURO standard) and safety aspects (purchase of an imported vehicle, technical condition of the vehicle).
USED CAR MARKET FRAUDS
The used vehicle market is full of potential scams which inexperienced buyers without detailed technical knowledge often find difficult to detect. Common fraudulent practices include odometer tampering, installation of non-homologated parts, misinformation about the vehicle use or ownership, and similar deceptions. However, despite the expertise of some car dealerships, a thorough review of a vehicle's publicly available data can reveal many hidden irregularities. In addition to the data maintained by authorized car dealerships during service inspections, there is also publicly available information on technical inspections of registered vehicles. Unfortunately, although this data is rich and openly accessible, it is often presented in formats that are difficult for the average user to navigate (e.g. CSV files of technical inspection reports on the OPSI portal). To increase transparency and awareness, and ultimately improve safety in the used vehicle market, we have developed the online application Avtolog.si. This platform provides a clear and comprehensive overview of a vehicle's condition and history. Currently, users can access information such as mileage over time, the technical compliance of the vehicle at each recorded inspection, emissions data and general vehicle details (including installed parts, color, engine performance, etc.), all based on the official technical inspection reports of the Republic of Slovenia.
FEATURES OF AVTOLOG.SI
Avtolog.si is an online platform that provides visual insights into the Slovenian vehicle fleet, with a focus on environmental and safety aspects. The visualizations highlight key factors such as the distribution of vehicles by drive type, EURO emission standards for petrol and diesel engines and more. In addition, the service enables easy verification of vehicle characteristics through a simple search by VIN number. As shown in the example on the left, searching by VIN number provides the user with a basic data overview and a visualization of the vehicle’s mileage. In this particular case, the visualization clearly indicates tampering with the recorded mileage, highlighting one of the platform’s key features for detecting irregularities.
